      本片是一个奇迹：把一部低成本的学生片炒作成超级卖座片。其秘密武器是把虚构的剧情宣传成纪录片，使不明就里的年轻人纷纷讨论布莱儿女巫的历史和关心起三名大学生的安危，还不知道自己是被骗了。本片是三人在森林中经历的纪录，全部采用手提摄影机拍摄而成，镜头乱动、画面失焦等技术上不合格的画面比比皆是，看到一半就会让人产生晕车呕吐之感，得有心理准备才行。话说回来，影片营造恐怖气氛(在没有经费的前提下)的确有两把刷子。2000年的续集叫做《厄夜丛林2：阴魂怒吼》(Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2)，镜头不再乱摇，剧情讲五个不要命的继续到森林去找女巫。不过外景地换了地方，原拍摄地的居民被他们以假乱真的故事害得不浅，于是禁止他们再度前去拍摄。
